What will be the school’s role in COVID-19 contact tracing?
Schools should work collaboratively with public health by:

1. Being proactive in contacting NH DHHS when a person is confirmed with COVID-19 in your school community.

2. Assist in identifying those who had close contacts (within 6 feet for 10 minutes or more) with the person confirmed with COVID-19. This might include sharing seating charts, attendance records and bus rosters.

3. Assist in providing contact information for those identified as close contacts (including name, date of birth and phone number of parents/guardians).

4. Communicate with your school community. NH DHHS will assist you in the development of these communications.

SUMMER READING INFORMATION

The Londonderry Middle School is proud to announce our 8th annual Summer Reading Program. This program is designed to get or keep our students engaged in novels and other forms of literature and nonfiction. In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in academic discussions with their peers about books that were read over the summer. Trends show that student's academic performance dips, some only slightly and others significantly, over the summer months. In a study of middle school students (Heyns), the activity that correlated the most consistently and effectively to sustaining, and even increasing a child's academic performance, was reading.

In order to prevent academic decline and peak interest and readiness over the summer months, all middle school students, including incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders, are required to read two books over the summer. There will be multiple opportunities for each student to demonstrate that they have fulfilled this requirement.

  1. ALL GRADES may choose one or two books from the LMS book group list. If they choose this option, they must sign up online  to attend the scheduled book group at the following link, Summer Book Group Signup Form (students must use their school email account to log in to register) read the book over the summer, and then attend the designated book group discussion offered in August or early September.  This is a great opportunity for students to reconnect after the summer months and also an opportunity for students to get to know new teachers or reconnect with former teachers. Please sign up by July 15th so that teachers can plan for their discussions. The link for the online book group trailers and sign up is: Summer Book Groups

  2. Rather than attend a scheduled book group, students may also choose to read one or both of their books of their own choice, either fiction or nonfiction, and join the Summer Literacy Program to interact with the staff and earn badges for rewards. Completion of the badges takes the place of the discussion noted in the first option. Please see the attached flyer to join the Google Classroom: Summer Program Flyer

  3. The Library Media Center will have a suggested list of middle school appropriate books posted on our website as well if your child is looking for suggestions.

We look forward to your feedback at the start of the school year and are anxious to hear about all the great books that were read this summer!!
