The Londonderry School District School Counseling Program mission, in cooperation with family, community and school, is to advocate for and promote the educational, personal, social and career development of students. Recognizing diversity and unique individual needs, school counselors work with students, staff and parents to initiate and coordinate student services designed to foster the growth of individuals who will become contributing and responsible members of society.

A school counselor assists students, teachers and parents in a variety of ways. To name a few:

  • Counsels individuals and groups
  • Helps identify the needs of students
  • Encourages better interpersonal relationships
  • Promotes positive attitudes and choices
  • Aids teachers and parents in helping students
  • Lends support to school, career, and personal plans
  • Provides preventative counseling
  • Coordinates referrals to outside agencies
  • Teaches effective classroom activities
  • Maintains confidences within legal and ethical bounds
